Nicola was appearing in the Royal Court production of The Gingerbread Man as I recollec t.Susan Hampshire was a co star. Nicol and I went to the pub next to the theatreafter the show. We were joined by Sarah Miles later. I detected an atmosphere in the discussions which was explained to me after she left.Nicol had been living with her in the West End for months. They had returned that morning after a visit to her family home in the country .Nicol h.ad asked Mr Miles for his blessing to his marriage proposal to Sarah.Mr Miles informed Nicol he was unsuitable in every respect and it was Time Up.
