Sitter in 1 portrait
American actor. Clift appeared on stage from the age of 14 but delayed his screen debut to 1948 when he made an immediate impact with his roles in Fred Zinneman's The Search (for which he received an Oscar nomination) and Howard Hawk's Red River. He received other Oscar nominations for A Place in the Sun (1951), From Here to Eternity (1953) and Judgement at Nuremberg (1961). Clift is most associated with playing introspective, troubled heroes with his intuitive psychological approach garnered from his own personal troubled private life.
