Burckhardt tells his mother in a letter from Cairo (March 1817) about this portrait and its distribution among friends.
A pencil drawing, by Slater?, is kept in the British Museum.
For the German edition of Burckhardts Travels in Nubia 1819 a re-etching of this portrait was produced 1820.
