Henry Green (Henry Vincent Yorke)

(1905-1973), Novelist

Born in Tewkesbury Gloucestershire, Henry Green published his first novel, Blindness (1926), aged 18. He became managing director of his father's firm in Birmingham but also pursued a career as a novelist. His social satires, including Living (1929), Party Going (1939) and Loving (1945), are considered important works of English modernist literature. He also wrote the highly-regarded memoir, Pack my Bag (1940).
