(1920-2012), Sitar player and composer; father of Norah Jones

Sitarist and composer ; studied under guru Baba Allaudin Khan. Famous collaborators include Yehudi Menhuin, Philip Glass and George Harrison. Harrison travelled to India to spend time learning from Shankar and performed on Sitar on 'Within You, Without You' on the Sergeant Pepper album. Shankar released tracks on the Beatle's Apple label and Harrison produced five of Shankar's albums. Harrison said 'Shankar is the Godfather of World music'.
