Vikram Seth

Indian novelist, poet, and travel writer. Born in Kolkata, India, Seth studied at some of the best schools in the country before going to England for higher studies. He graduated in 1975 with a Philosophy, Politics and Economics degree from Corpus Christi College, Oxford and gained a master's in Economics from Stanford University (USA) before embarking on a literary career. Best known for his novel A Suitable Boy, set against the backdrop of the period leading up to the first post-Independence national election of India in 1952. The book is regarded as a modern-day classic for the range of subjects and issues it touches upon. At 591,552 words, the novel is one of the longest novels written in the English language.
