Conservative politician and barrister. Deputy Chief Prosecutor at the Nuremberg war trials; Home Secretary (1951-3); appointed Lord Chancellor in 1954, but sacked, together with six other cabinet members, in July 1962 during Macmillan's 'Night of the Long Knives'.
