Lynn Seymour

(1939-2023), Ballet dancer

Sitter in 4 portraits
Born in Canada, Seymour joined The Royal Ballet in 1957 and two years later was made a principal. In 1958 she created a role in MacMillan's The Burrow and became his muse. Acclaimed as a great actress-ballerina, her dramatic gifts were the inspiration for many of the leading roles in his ballets, including Juliet in Romeo and Juliet (1965) and the title role in Anastasia (1971). She formed a celebrated partnership with Christopher Gable and together they created the lead roles in Ashton's The Two Pigeons (1961). She left the Company in 1979 to become ballet director for the Bavarian State Opera.
